We have selected 20 red, low-redshift quasars from the Schneider et al. SDSS Quasar Catalog, of which 10 are also significantly detected in observation fields from the XMM-Newton public archive. Eight of the quasars have yielded good x-ray spectra. We expect that these red objects correspond to lines of sight that are highly inclined to the poles of the accretion disk, with consequently high levels of obscuration of the source. We are investigating correlations between x-ray slope (gamma), optical-to-x-ray ratio (alpha_ox ), optical line properties, redshift, and x-ray and optical luminosities. We will discuss the results in the context of how red AGNs behave as opposed to non-absorbed AGNs.
