Solar Flares: Magnetic Fields, Solar Chromosphere: Fine Structure

Scientific paper

By use of the fine structure Hα filtergrams as well as the solar magnetic field data the compound active region NOAA 6309 has been investigated. For October 13 - 16, 1990, the magnetic topology separators in the chromosphere have been computed day by day. By identification of them with Hα filtergrams, it is found that bright plages and flare kernels are located at or close to separators. This provides a convincing support to the view-point that the magnetic reconnection is the main process in the energy release of flares and that the reconnection occurs on the topology separatrices of magnetic fields.
