An effort is made to correlate variations of electron density in the D-region with pressure variations at the 30-km level (10-11 mbar) for particular situations characteristic of the quiet ionosphere. The data used are rocket measurements of D-region electron density and parameters of the troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere (temperature, pressure, density, and wind) at polar, middle, and equatorial latitudes. A significant correlation is found between time variations of the electron density in the lower D-region and pressure variations at the 30-km level under quiet conditions.
