The european space mission CoRoT will be partly dedicated to the search for planets with the photometric transit method. It is optimized for the detection of planets in the period range 1 to 50 days, and sensitive to planet size over 2 Earth radii, i.e. focused on hot Jupiters down to hot Neptunes. After a brief description of the instrument, the paper gives the status of the scientific preparation to CoRoT: fields and targets selection, performance tests and limitations.
