It is necessary to study the local and global magnetic field and interactions between them in order to understand the mechanisms of CMEs. To this purpose, we searched for the relationship of CMEs and unbalanced-flux active regions, because (1) unbalanced-flux active regions provide a host to both the small-scale and the large-scale magnetic field, (2) unbalanced-flux active regions are likely to generate major flares that are believed to be local events, and (3) research shows all x-class flares in the period from 1996 to 1999 are associated with CMEs (Andrews, 2000). From SOHO observation, five active regions were chosen for this study based on criteria (1) that the active region generated x-class flares and (2) that the region was near solar disk center when the flares occurred. There were 12 x-class flares occurred in those regions, and all the x-class flares are found to be associated with CMEs. Using magnetograms taken by SOHO/MDI, the magnetic flux is calculated, evolutions of magnetic configurations are investigated and possible causes to trigger these flares are discussed. SOHO is a mission of international cooperation between the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA.
