We use a sample of 62 core collapse supernovae detected with the Hubble Space Telescope to derived the supernova rate to redshift z 1. The core collapse rate is used to derive the star formation rate over this redshift range and we compare this rate to the star formation rate derived from galaxy luminosity densities. We also discuss the effects of dust obscuration and how this affects the observed number of supernovae.
