The paper examines the feasibility of the adaptive control of a determinate model of the ionosphere by adjusting its internal parameters. The effectiveness of the model-control algorithm is demonstrated using data from the Tomsk vertical-sounding station for March 1974; it is shown that the error in f(h) profiles during model identification on the basis of current f0F2 data does not exceed the error in calculating f(h) from ionograms. It is concluded that the proposed adaptive-control algorithm makes it possible to extend the diagnostic capabilities of vertical-sounding stations.
