The far UV emission from the warm intercloud medium (mainly two photon
continuum and emission lines) is evaluated and compared to observations
of the diffuse UV radiation. Whereas this emission may account for the
UV surface brightness of faint extended H II regions, it is found unable
to contribute significantly to the general diffuse UV background.
