The contrast of active regions on spectroheliograms obtained in various lines is used to obtain representations of temperature and density changes in moderately active regions at different solar atmospheric levels corresponding to faculae and flocculi. In the lower chromosphere, the increase in luminescence in a flacculus is due to an increase in density by a factor of about 1.5 and a temperature rise of about 3000 K. A tendency toward constant density with height is manifest in the transition zone and in the corona, which leads to an increase of density with height as compared with the nondisturbed atmosphere at the same height. A model of the active region is presented.
