Ratios between the Stokes V profiles of C I lines and Fe II lines are used to determine the temperature of the continuum-forming layers of solar magnetic features. From the derived temperature stratification the continuum intensity of the spatially unresolved magnetic features is obtained independently of spatial resolution. First results suggest that whereas magnetic features have, on average, a brighter continuum than the quiet sun in a region of small magnetic filling, they are darker in a region with large filling factor. Consequences for flux-tube sizes and the interpretation of the global solar luminosity variation are discussed.
