Optical spectroscopic measurements with high time resolution of the UX UMa-type system cataclysmic variable V3885 Sgr (= CD -42 deg 14462) were obtained in 1982 and 1983. The spectra are characterized by very broad (FWHM = 3000 km/sec) and shallow Balmer absorption lines with superimposed complex emission components. In 2 spectra of 1982, the H beta line exhibits a marked P Cygni profile shape and spectral features of TiO bands can be detected. The continuum fluxes and the complex Balmer emission features show phase-dependent intensity variations. The flux modulations can be interpreted by short term eclipses of the disk by the secondary component and by a variable line of sight aspect of an extended bright spot region on the following side of the accretion disk.
