The paper discusses a continuous-flow laser continuously pumped by a high-pressure mercury lamp. Data are presented for the transmission spectra of the filters and the absorption bands of the active media. The relationship between laser pulse duration and active media pressure is reviewed. Typical laser output is near 1 W, and efficiency in converting electrical energy into light is about 1%. It is suggested that lasers of this type have applications in nonlinear spectroscopy and scattered-light spectroscopy.
