The Kashima station in Japan has participated in many regular Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) experiments of the Crustal Dynamics Project (CDP) since 1984. These experiments have provided data concerning extra-galactic sources, such as the source positions, correlated flux density, and source structure. Although the celestial reference frame defined by the positions of the extra-galactic sources is considered to be essentially fixed, changes in the position of some quasars were observed during our experiments. We estimated the effect of the known structure changes on the effective positions, and found them to be largely in agreement with the changes based on our data. The changes in the flux density of the region within 1 mas for some of the quasars during 1984-1988 were observed in the CDP VLBI experiments. Continuous monitoring of the flux densities of compact features in these objects is valuable for studying the evolution of VLBI-scale jets.
