A method for astrolabe catalogue construction is presented. It is based on classical concepts, but the model of conditional equations for the group reduction is modified, additional parameters being introduced in the step- wise regressions. The chain adjustment is neglected, and the advantages of this approach are discussed.
The method has been applied to the data obtained with the astrolabe of the Quito Astronomical Observatory from 1964 to 1983. Various characteristics of the catalogue produced with this method are compared with those due to the rigorous classical method. Some improvement both in systematic and random errors is outlined.
