GX301-2 is a massive early-type star with a strong stellar wind, in an eccentric orbit (e=0.47) with a neutron star. The neutron star accretes from the stellar wind and exhibits regular x-ray flares approximately 1.4 days prior to periastron passage. Long-term continuous x-ray monitoring of GX301-2 by the RXTE/ All-Sky-Monitor has now been carried out for a period of 5 years, yielding the highest quality orbital x-ray light curve yet. The main flux peak just prior to periastron is accurately characterised, as well as a secondary broad peak near apastron. A model of the binary system and stellar wind is constructed, and compared to the new x-ray light curve and to previous other data on GX301-2. Various properties of the system are constrained, including the orbital inclination, the properties of the stellar wind, and the mass, radius and rotation rate of the star.
