The absence of a detectable gamma-ray emission from SN1987A following the neutrino burst from this source is used to imply new lower bounds on tauv(i) which are much greater than the previous astrophysical and cosmological upper bounds for tauv(i). The previous bounds, together with results from accelerator experiments, left a small window for the existence of massive neutrinos with mass of less than 100 MeV which are mixed with v(e). The present results suggest the closure of this window.
