The use of type Ia supernovae for cosmology is limited today by systematic uncertainties. To reduce these uncertainties and standardize these objects, we have to better understand their physical properties. For this purpose, we compare type Ia supernova spectra from the SuperNova Legacy Survey with the predictions of two supernova explosion models (a deflagration and a delayed detonation models) in order to constrain and improve them.
