The CME of August 14, 2001 was followed by an auroral storm August 17. The spacecraft IMAGE (over the northern polar cap) and Polar (over the southern polar cap) were well positioned for studying auroral asymmetries during a period of time when the IMF had a southward component exceeding -20 nT. Both imagers showed large-scale waves at the poleward and equatorward boundaries of the auroral oval at about the time of the premidnight auroral enhancement. This event is an ideal opportunity to investigate conjugacy of such large-scale waves and other magnetospheric responses to this event. The plasmasphere showed a strong erosion event, from both RPI and EUV data. One particular interest of this event is that it was available in real time from the SEC web site.
