Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) and Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources are a class of powerful, compact, extragalactic objects. They are not well understood, and few sources have been confirmed in the entire sky. These objects play a role in the evolution of large-scale radio galaxies, and are a reasonable fraction (30% and 10-15% respectively) of the bright centimetre-wavelength radio sources, though they are not well studied. This proposal seeks to confirm the status of a sample of 75 new CSS and 8 new candidates, by imaging the sources and investigating their polarization and variability, as both object types are expected to be compact, with low fractional polarization levels and little variability exhibited. Observations are proposed to be at 3 and 6 cm, which not only adds extra detail to source spectra, but allows us to confirm the variability levels of the sources. GPS sources generally peak around this area and most CSS sources are still bright at these lower frequencies, allowing us to gain a more thorough view of the candidate sources.
