Gravitational Microlensing
Scientific paper
It is a well-known fact that caustic crossing microlensing events produce high-amplification events (HAE). In this paper, the authors examine the morphology of the general caustic features for multi-lens systems with various lens number densities. They classify the topological structures of the caustics with respect to the number of lenses by investigating the characteristic shapes of HAE light curves for various caustic configurations. The spike structures of the light curves and the physical dependences of those structures are discussed with respect to the time scale of caustic-crossing events.
