Variations in the dayside and nightside lunar magnetic field are analyzed to determine whether a conducting layer is located in the lunar interior. Using magnetometric data from Apollo 12 and Explorer 35, it is shown that variations in the vertical component of the magnetic field are comparable on both sides, indicating that an electrically conducting layer probably exists at a depth not exceeding 200 km. But, it is noted that an unequivocal conclusion cannot yet be made in this respect.
