The need in alternative propulsion systems for space use is an actual challenge forever. The given paper presents the concept of an combined electrorocket and electrody- namic tether propulsion system (CERDPS) for station keeping of large space structures like the International Space Station (ISS), where the current driven by on-board power supply, is allowed to circulate through iono- sphere between electric thruster which simul- taneously play role of an anode plasma con- tactor and distant cathode plasma contactor placed on tethered subsatellite, in order to produce an additional thrust due to interaction of this current with the Earth magnetic field. The expected CERDPS performance were estimated and analyzed for the task of atmospheric drag make-up with some critical assumption concerning the possibility to run large current through the ionospheric plasma. The analyses performed suggests that with available technology CERDPS being used instead of any 'pure' electric propulsion system, is capable to save at least a few tons of propellant which is to be launched into the orbit during 10-year flight of the ISS. The obtained estimations look promising, but reality of the CERDPS concept extremely depends on solution of the problem of the ionospheric current closure path and good lot aspects of compatibility.
