The theoretical and mathematical bases of the numerical simulation techniques used for the unrestricted three-body problem at Leningrad State University Astronomical Observatory during the period 1960-1985 are reviewed; the major findings of the simulations (including 30,000 triple systems) were summarized by Anosova (1985) and Anosova and Orlov (1986). Consideration is given to the choice of units, the generation of initial conditions by a statistical method, the numerical integration scheme, the analysis of motion integrals as a check on numerical integration, local and cumulative errors in the simulations, and the basic results of an accuracy analysis of the calculations.
