We propose to use Hydra in the echelle mode to measure the iron and alpha abundances for ~ 100 K giants in the Galactic bulge field at (l,b)=0,-6° some 700 pc distant from the Galactic Center. We will select stars from the proper motion study of Sumi et al. (2004) and use the radial velocities to select candidate bar members. By observing at R=40,000 and working in the 6300Aregion, we will be able to measure oxygen abundances, as well as Fe, Mg, Ca, Si, and Ti. This survey will detect groups of stars with peculiar abundance signatures that may be correlated with kinematics, and explore how the abundance trends compare with stars of the local disk. An iron abundance distribution derived from these high resolution spectra will be superior to those inferred from low resolution spectroscopy.
