A method of separating the components in the radiation from variable extragalactic sources within the framework of a two-component model is proposed. The components are a normal galaxy and a variable point source with constant energy distribution in the spectrum. After applying the method to a sample of four galaxies, it is concluded that the method is applicable to objects without emission or with faint emission.
