Two methods for the measurement of ionospheric wave disturbances compared on the basis of Alma-Ata data obtained during January-March 1983 using two SP-3 ionosondes: the phase (P) path method and the group (P-prime) path method. It is shown that there is good agreement between P(t) and P-prime(t) behaviors; that the amplitude of P(t) fluctuations is significantly lower than the amplitude of P-prime(t) fluctuations; and that P(t) and P-prime(t) fluctuations are synphase. Both methods are shown to be adequate for the study of ionospheric wave disturbances.
