The Cosmos-49 model is compared with the OGO and Magsat 6/80 models. The results indicate that, in order to obtain sufficiently reliable spherical harmonic coefficients, it is necessary that the data cover the entire (or almost the entire) globe. The fact that observations were made at different heights (Cosmos and Magsat at 300-500 km, OGO at 400-1500 km) did not have a significant influence on the three models. Thus, if the task of the model is an approximation of the main field along, it is fully admissible to use data from high-flying satellites.
