Radar studies of the corona and solar activity evidenced no stable correlation between the effective cross section and the mean characteristics of solar activity. Large cross sections are associated with the passage of a structurally complex group of flare-related spots over the solar disk. The size of the effective cross section is closely correlated with the incidence of type III bursts and their continuum. The maximum of the cross sections need not coincide with the passage of a group through a central meridian. Sudden large increases in the cross sections are accompanied by type II bursts with type IV continuum and a large number of type III bursts. A high reflecting power of the corona is connected with the development of an active region over a short period of time.
