The present analysis deals with some experimental data on the solar magnetic fields at the level of the photosphere and in interplanetary space. A distinct difference is found between the behavior of the Bz-component of the IMF at the earth's orbit and the meridional component of the coronal magnetic field during the period from September through December 1965. Characteristic of the Bz-component are sudden frequent variations which differ drastically from the behavior of the coronal field. Bz tends to attain large values in the region of solar wind compression; however, the mechanism of this behavior is not clear.
