The surface-enhanced Raman (SER) spectrum of the fullerene C60 has been measured on an electrochemically-roughened silver surface using a Fourier transform (FT) Raman spectrometer. The FT-SER spectrum is similar to the normal Raman spectrum of this compound indicating that only the electromagnetic mechanism of enhancement is occurring. Detection limit was found to be 7 ng of C60. Comparison of these data with previously reported SER data for C60, shows distinct spectral differences obtained under different experimental conditions. C60 does not appear to show a resonance effect, as has been reported for C70, but it is postulated that C60 exhibits phase variation depending on the method of deposition on the surface.
