Optimal multiple-impulse maneuvers are compared with the simplest one- and two-impulse maneuvers in terms of fuel consumption for certain problems involving the transfer of a spacecraft from a point specified by the radius vector and velocity vector into a circular orbit. It is shown that, in general, the optimal tranfers are close from the standpoint of energy consumption to the simple impulse maneuvers, the gain achieved through the multiple-impulse transfers amounts to less than 1 percent. However, there are cases when the gain achieved through optimal transfers is significant.
