The accuracy of the approximation of monthly median values of f0F2 (the critical frequency of the F-layer) according to different indices of solar activity is examined. The indices considered are the direct indices (W, F10.7, and I58.4) and the ionospheric GESSN index. It is shown that the approximation accuracy according to the GESSN is about 30-50 percent higher than that when W is used. The F10.7 and I58.4 indices are somewhat (by 10 percent) superior to W during summer and equinoctial periods.
