A comparison of photographic observations of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter with the Sampson (1921) theory, which has been corrected and implemented by Lieske (1976), shows geocentric angular distance differences on the order of 0.08 arcsec for 1968-1977 observations, and 0.14 arcsec for those of 1913-1928. It is therefore suggested that significant long-period defects remain in the Sampson-Lieske theory, due to the difficulties encountered in even a first-order theory's computation of long-period inequalities in mean longitudes.
