Short-wave propagation times on long-range paths have been calculated by a number of methods: the adiabatic and trajectory methods in different channels, and an adiabatic method using the EMI-81 complex ionosphere model and a corresponding simple single-layer parabolic model. It is shown that, in the case of emission from the ground, the propagation time determined by the adiabatic method (irrespective of distance along the path) differs from the time determined by the trajectory method by less than 0.5 percent; whereas this difference is less than 0.25 percent when emission is in the ionosphere.
