The International Reference Ionosphere of 1988 (IRI-1988) is compared with results of ionospheric observations made in China with respect to the following parameters: foF2, M(3200)F2, foF1, hmE, the total electron content, and the shape of bottomside profile. It was found that the regional map of foF2 and M(3000)F2 obtained by the Asia Oceania Region F2 layer prediction method (widely used in China) is nearer to the observations than the world map of CCIR. The observed and the IRI-predicted values of foF1 showed only small discrepancies.
