Data obtained from nine hadron chambers used in the Pamir experiments are compared with the results of a Monte Carlo simulation of hadron and gamma families for various assumptions concerning the composition of primary cosmic rays. It is found that the characteristics of the families eliminate the possibility of iron dominance in the primary cosmic rays.
