A comparison is performed among the most widely used estimators for the 2-point correlation function and another one is introduced. All of them are tested by applying them to a stochastic segment Cox point process, whose analytical 2-point function is known. One can see that each of them has advantages and disadvantages and that, depending on the exact kind of information we want to obtain, one or another is the most appropriate but none can claim to be ``the best''.
