A comparison of the major architectural structure of computer programs available to aid in the design of solar heating and cooling systems for buildings is presented. A brief description of each program including the size, availability, inputs required, and the flow of information through the program is outlined. The equipment required to run the programs and the costs of obtaining and running the programs is summarized. The pertinent details required to select a computer program for educational or commercial applications are summarized.
