The Galaxy-Globular Clusters-Compactness
Scientific paper
The evolution of the compactness of a globular cluster is found to to be closely dependent on its mass and on its position in the Galaxy. At large galactocentric distances, the evolution is very small and it is the slower the larger the mass. A statistical study of the available material on the compactness shows that its distribution at smaller galactocentric distances agrees with the theoretical expectation. At large distances, the distribution is very different for different masses, possibly reflecting a close relation between the mass and the condensation at the stage of formation of the cluster.
