Recently, we detected 22 GHz water maser emission from the starburst galaxy NGC3620, using the 70-m Tidbinbilla telescope. Our follow-up line and continuum ATCA observations confirmed the maser line detection and revealed an association of the maser emission with the nuclear continuum source, possibly hinting at the presence of a low-luminosity AGN in the galaxy. Due to the high negative declination of the target galaxy, only LBA measurements can, however, allow us to resolve the radio continuum emission from the innermost region of the galaxy in to individual compact sources and/or to identify sources with particularly high brightness temperatures. We propose to observe the galaxy NGC3620 with the LBA at 1.6 GHz in phase-referencing mode in order to associate the maser with respect to other centers of activity in NGC3620.
