Solar Active Regions, Magnetic Fields: Tilt

Scientific paper

Magnetogram data of 517 bipolar active regions (BARs) are analyzed to study latitude, magnetic flux and magnetic polarity separation relation to tilt angle to the active regions. The data were obtained at Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS) in Beijing during 1988 to October 2001. These active regions all have excellently bipolar magnetic configuration. Statistical results are found in this study as following: 1. Magnetic flux and area of the leading polarity of active regions are almost equal to that of the following one. However, the mean magnetic field strength of the leading polarity is stronger than that of the following one. 2. The tilt angle is increased with the increasing latitude, decreased with increasing magnetic flux and polarity separation. 3. The magnetic polarity separation (d) is completely correlated to the magnetic flux (φ) following d ∝ φ0.44.
