We have completed a new X-ray microcalorimeter system to detect X-rays from plasmas produced by an Electron Beam Ion Trap at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The instrument is an upgrade to a detector system used for laboratory astrophysics; it has a 1x4 array of microcalorimeter detectors, an improved cooling system that uses a two-stage ADR, and a built-in calibration source. We report on the performance of the instrument, including some of the most recent results from the EBIT.
This work was supported in part by the SAO intern program under NSF grant AST-9731923.
