The interpretation by Fahlman and Ulrych of the light curve of the quasar 3C 273 as a superposition of independent random pulses is in contradiction with essential properties of the observed variability of this object. Of the two variability concepts - superposition of independent pulses and an essentially nonlinear system (coherent, or unique body) - the first one appears to be extremely unlikely.
