The current knowledge of the absolute flux density scale at low radio frequencies is reviewed. It appears that the two commonly accepted scales are mutually contradictory, but recent observations at 38 MHz suggest a resolution of the problem. The contradictions can be overcome if the secular decrease of the flux of Cas A is assumed to be independent of frequency. The consequences of this are discussed.
