Scientific paper

A brief description of the comet observations of the year 1979 is presented. Numerical order designations and orbital elements are given for seven new comets and five previously known periodic comets. Observations of 11 holdover comets from 1977 and 1978 are also described. The numerical designations and orbital elements are given in a table.
