Arguments are given for life being a cosmic phenomenon, which comets carry amplify and disperse throughout the universe. The overall atomic composition of comets agrees well with that of living materials. Since organic matter and water are present in comets, there is potentially an excellent culture medium for some types of microorganism. The melted interiors of comets are well suited to the amplification of autotrophic anaerobic bacteria. The frozen exteriors could preserve almost all forms of microorganism known to exist on Earth today. The Earth receives over 10 to the 18th power viable cells per year as a result of the deposition of cometary particles at the top of the atmosphere. The various environments of the Earth offer ample scope for development to the particles which do not perish.
