Kelvin-Helmholtz instability at the ionopause of the cometary head is
considered. It is shown that the dominant mode has the wavelength of
about 103km for weakly loaded solar wind. This mode
development at the non-linear phase may lead to ionopause destruction
and to the formation of cometary rays.
