A large number of CCD images of comet Halley and Schmidt plates were taken at Catania Observatory from October 1985 to May 1986. Preliminary results show evidence of jets rotating with a period T ≡ 52.5 hours. The gas density falls off with distance as r-2. The ground images taken close to the Giotto fly-by show evidence of boundaries observed "in situ" by Giotto and Vega. The observed different spatial distribution of H2O+ and C2 is discussed in terms of the origin of either molecule.
