This MAP project is providing fundamental, theoretical and numerical knowledge on the spread of flames in wall fires in space, substantiated with experimental data. Based on well-developed models, a new ranking criterion for the flammability of space materials is proposed, introducing three dimensionless transfer numbers. The simplified theoretical approach leading to the determination of the required criterion is presented.
