The MERLIN, VLBI, and MERLIN+VLBI images of QSO 3C286 at 18 cm are presented. The structures with low brightness in the MERLIN image are just resolved in the MERLIN+VLBI image. But some vestiges still remain. The extension of the central part of the MERLIN+VLBI image is longer than that of the VLBI image. Though the dynamic range of the MERLIN+VLBI image is better than 1000:1, the counterjet of 3C286 is not found. Several models have been used to interpret the structures in the images.
